Fiducia financial services are a well respected wealth management company based in Dedham Vale, near Colchester. Fiducia had, over several years, developed an extensive set of linked Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets, which gave them a powerful view of investment opportunities and allowed a level of what-if analysis.

Gordon Kearney, investment team leader and a director of Fiducia, recognised the need to consolidate much of this data, and came to ECS to achieve that objective. A database design using the Microsoft SQL server architecture was commissioned. It was clearly very important that the transition was carefully planned and backwards compatible at all times. A large part of the process would be to consolidate the many spreadsheets and external data sources that would be sharing data.

The Fiducia technical team were also keen to maintain close involvement with the project throughout and to resume future development and maintenance on completion.

ECS agreed, implemented and documented a solution for Fiducia. Along the way there were several difficult hurdles to overcome, so timescales were unavoidably extended. The final solution included a radical revision, consolidation and upgrade of spreadsheets to Microsoft Office 2007. Using the new data driven solution has allowed Fiducia to maintain their edge in the financial analysis and monitoring of clients holding. The custom application is now fully supported in house and the benefits of data consolidation now allows new functionality to be more easily provided.
